Back to School Backyard Brawl Notes

James Callaway (’28, Alpharetta, Ga.)- the 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hitter led the tournament with five runs driven in for the ZT Bombers 14u Victus. A primary first baseman, Callaway drove in a run in three of the four games for the Bombers. In game 1 of the tournament for the Bombers, he drove in three runs with a single and a double against eventual champion Team Elite 14U Prime Black. Callaway also ran the fastball up to 83 mph on the bump as a secondary right-handed pitcher and two-way player to follow moving forward.

Hudson Burnett (’28, Knoxville, Tenn.)- the 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitter led the Halls Red Devils to the championship game of the 14U PG Back to School Backyard Brawl. The primary outfielder led the tournament with seven runs scored in only four games for the runner-up Red Devils. Burnett finished with a .429 batting average and a 1.395 on base plus slugging percentage. He showed a feel for the barrel and the ability to use the whole field in the box. Of his six hits over the weekend, he tallied four extra-base hits with two doubles, a triple and an inside-the-park homerun to centerfield against ZT Southeast.



Fisher Green (’28, Powell, Tenn.)- the 5-foot-10, 150-pound shortstop did a little bit of everything for the runner-up Halls Red Devils. The left-handed hitter drove in four runs, scored another four runs and finished with a 1.083 on-base plus slugging percentage. The secondary right-handed pitcher also appeared in three games for the Red Devils on the mound with five strikeouts over four innings pitched. He ran the fastball up to 85 mph and featured a breaking ball in the 68-72 mph range.

Gavin Gebhardt (’28, Milton, Ga.)- the 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed pitcher tossed seven scoreless innings over two appearances for the ZT Bombers 14U Victus. The primary shortstop ran the fastball up to 84 mph and finished with 14 strikeouts and only two hits allowed. His 5-inning complete game victory over SLB out of Asheville, N.C. propelled the Bombers into the semi-finals. He struck out 10 in the game and finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases to force a matchup with eventual champion Team Elite 14U Prime Black.

Grady Zydowsky (’28, Suwanee, Ga.)- the 5-foot-6, 115-pound left-handed hitter for Smartense 14U Academy finished with a .400 batting average and 1.155 on-base plus slugging percentage over the weekend. He recorded at least 1 hit in all three games including three doubles and a single. Zydowsky accounted for seven runs with four runs scored and three runs batted in. The primary second baseman also tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings on the bump with two strikeouts and only one hit allowed to finish off a solid weekend on both sides of the ball.

Brady Fountain (’28, Watkinsville, Ga.)- the 5-foot-9, 140-pound shortstop finished with a .600 batting average for the 14U PG Back to School Backyard Brawl Champion Team Elite 14U Prime Black. The right-handed hitter recorded a hit in all five games and accounted for four runs with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Fountain carries a .500 batting average and 1.141 on-base plus slugging percentage through the early part of the 2024 PG season.
